Support Project in Mexico
We are supporting the project "Green Fence" in Puebla, Mexico, where the Nopal cactus for our AquaCacteen™ is grown.
The Nopal cactus used for our AquaCacteen™ grows on the Rancho San Andrés Socotla, a family farm in the state of Puebla, Mexico. This has been a family farm for generations. It provides fair wages to local rural residents that help maintain and harvest the Nopal year-round. With an ecological vision from the beginning, sustainable processes were implemented and are, continually being improved.
Investment in the farm enabled it to obtain organic certification in 2014 (OTCO). Also, our suppliers maintain responsible relations with local communities involved in farming & production.
Like other cactuses, the Nopal cactus adapted to extreme environmental conditions. The ”leaves” of the plant are actually modified stem segments, often called pads or cladodes and can store large amounts of water. The original leaves have been transformed to spines, the cuticle is thickened and coated with a waxy layer to help prevent water loss and to shield the stems from intense sunlight. Besides, a biochemical protection against radicals generated by solar radiation is provided by flavonoids.
For the project "Green Fence" 350 native trees (neem, moringa and mesquite) were planted to create a green division to define the land.
The fence will protect the washing and drying area and avoid aerial contamination of neighboring land, due to its proximity to the surroundings of the crop.
Mibelle Biochemistry has fully financed this project, to support our local partner and retain the good relationship with the supplier.
